Digital Economy Act- Fair or farce?

You can vote at most for 1 choice(s) on the poll. If you vote again, your old vote is replaced by the new vote.

Illegal downloaders could soon be banned from the web after the Digital Economy Act was passed this month amid much controversy. But what effect do you think the law will have on piracy?

  • Piracy will fall dramatically- Only a heavy-handed approach will finally stamp out piracy and help the media and creative industries. Consumers will turn to paid services as technologies improve and price falls.
  • Piracy will fall slightly- Act is flawed but a step in the right direction and will eventually be accepted. Revison is needed but pirates will now think twice before downloading.
  • Piracy will stay the same- Bill is riddled with flaws. Innocent people will be cut off and legitimate sites will be blocked. Act is likely to be revoked following unpopularity.
  • Piracy will rise- Undemocratic and archaic parliamentary process will help 'legitimise' piracy and drive it into the mainstream. New ways to circumvent law will soon appear.
