Social search engine aims to improve Facebook newsfeeds

Web design agency Nudge Social Media has developed a search application that enables users to improve their Facebook news feed results by finding only the best stories recommended by friends

The Search For Perfect Facebook application has been created by Nudge Social Media in association with creator Sam Talbot.

The service uses the Facebook share platform, launched earlier this year, which opened the social networking site's stream API and allowed users to watch news feeds in real time.

Search For Perfect enables users to highlight the best results from their search by searching only news stories that users' friends have marked "perfect" on Facebook.

Users activate the service at http://Apps.Facebook.com/searchforperfect by tagging the word 'perfect' to anything they share on Facebook, including   photos, status updates, videos and links. The Search For Perfect Facebook application will then highlight perfect items from the user as well as their friends' feeds.

Search For Perfect will provide social network users quick and dynamic access to the most important information about them and their friends.

Perfect is a shared positive - for something to be "perfect" it must transcend opinion to reach this status.

The service will also enable brands to become involved by running "search for the perfect X" competitions using the application and community.

Toby Beresford, commercial director of Nudge Social Media, said: "Search For Perfect tackles the very notion of "search" head on by remaking it as a social experience. Even if users have missed something from a while back it will still be thrown to your perfect page as long as it's tagged perfect in some way."

He added: "We combined Sam Talbot's original idea with our own thinking that users were using real time social networks to move away from individual decision making toward shared decisions. The obvious next step from sharing and discussing items as a group is to shared decision making.

“To make these decisions, whether about products, movies or parties you need a social search engine to get results for you. It is the ideal word to capture the new age of "friends searching together. I think brands will find this an extremely useful marketing tool as results depend on word of mouth, the most powerful form of advertising."

Right to reply: The New Twitter – a sticky, revenue-rich service that blitzes the third-party apps
Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…

Guest comment: No rival to the SMS text exists in the market today
SMS is the obvious “lowest common denominator” mobile marketing solution... yet critics still talk about apps and website and vouchers. Darren Daws, Managing Director at Txtlocal argues why SMS is still the best mobile marketing medium, even on smartphones.
