French Connection launches webcam dating competition on Chatroulette

French Connection has launched a competition challenging men to get a date on controversial webcam site Chatroulette, as part of its ‘The Man, The Woman’ campaign.

Recently launched, Chatroulette connects users at random from around the world via webcam, text and images. The site has attracted criticism as some people have been exposed to rude or inappropriate behaviour while chatting on the site.

The clothing brand is hoping to cash in on the buzz around Chatroulette by hosting a competition asking men to set up a real date with a girl on the site.

Entrants are required to copy and paste their discussion into French Connection’s comments section, with the best response being awarded £250 in shopping vouchers at the clothing store.

The competition is part French Connection’s 'The Man, The Woman' campaign launched last month, which aims to draw more attention to its men’s range of clothing.

Commenting on the campaign, Jennifer Roebuck, head of ecommerce and direct marketing at French Connection, said: “The whole point of the men’s blog is to have content on the topic of manly things while merging in topics that are current, which this fits perfectly.”

“In this instance it was the perfect challenge asking men if they’re manly and bold enough to do it. We’re known for being provocative, our heritage comes from this and we’re not afraid to engage with new things,” Roebuck added.

Right to reply: The New Twitter – a sticky, revenue-rich service that blitzes the third-party apps
Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…

Right to reply: ‘Instant Search’– Google giveth then taketh away
Google has just announced its “streaming search” service, Google Instant, is coming out of limited Beta testing and going live for all users. According to Adam Bunn, Head of Search at leading independent search and social marketing agency Greenlight, when it comes to search engine optimisation campaigns (SEO), some websites may now suffer a drop in traffic.

Guest comment: No rival to the SMS text exists in the market today
SMS is the obvious “lowest common denominator” mobile marketing solution... yet critics still talk about apps and website and vouchers. Darren Daws, Managing Director at Txtlocal argues why SMS is still the best mobile marketing medium, even on smartphones.
