Zombies invade first mobile augmented game for Nokia’s Ovi Store

Software firm metaio has developed a first person augmented reality game for Nokia’s OVI store.

The Symbian based "Zombie ShootAR" uses the camera live-stream for optical tracking and 3D rendering to create a thrilling, interactive experience.

Players explore the real world around through the display of their mobile phone. No matter where they are, in the kitchen or in the streets, all of a sudden zombies start to crawl out of the ground, which players must defend themselves against.

Peter Meier, CTO of metaio said: "This is an important step on our roadmap and a first proof of concept that AR games can really be fun. We want to bring the virtual gaming world to the real world."

metaio recently launched the 2.0 version of junaio, a mobile augmented reality platform with an open API for developers and AR browser functions.

Until now junaio is only available on the iPhone, but with the new 1st person shooter at hand, metaio is currently evaluating opportunities to making mobile AR browsing, gaming and networking also available for Symbian users.

The free demo version can be downloaded from the Ovi store by NOKIA now.

Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…

Guest comment: No rival to the SMS text exists in the market today
SMS is the obvious “lowest common denominator” mobile marketing solution... yet critics still talk about apps and website and vouchers. Darren Daws, Managing Director at Txtlocal argues why SMS is still the best mobile marketing medium, even on smartphones.
