LinkedIn has launched a new version of its site in the Italian language, as the business-based social network looks to expand its international reach.

The announcement closely follows the addition of Portuguese on April 13th and continues LinkedIn’s investment in the European market.

The site is also available in English, French, Spanish and German.

From today, members can select the Italian version of LinkedIn right from their homepage. LinkedIn has a growing member base in Italy with close to one million Italian professionals using the site.

The addition of a local language version will allow members to communicate, collaborate and share information more easily with their trusted professional contacts in their native language.

Kevin Eyres, Managing Director of LinkedIn Europe commented; “Our growth in Europe has mirrored our expanding member base worldwide. For some time we’ve been the largest professional network on the continent recently passing 15 million members. Our continued focus on adding new languages illustrates our commitment to being relevant to our members by allowing them to easily tap into the world’s largest resource of business knowledge and expertise both locally and further afield.”

The launch of Italian is the latest step in a number of significant developments now being enjoyed by professionals around the world.

These include the ability for members to pair their LinkedIn and Twitter accounts, the integration of LinkedIn to Microsoft Outlook 2010 and the addition of the LinkedIn BlackBerry® app to the network’s existing iPhone® and Palm Pre™ mobile offering.

Worldwide, LinkedIn has been pursuing an aggressive growth strategy with recent office openings in the Netherlands, Dublin, Australia, India and Canada.

These add to the company’s existing corporate headquarters in Mountain View and its London office.

Right to reply: The New Twitter – a sticky, revenue-rich service that blitzes the third-party apps
Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…

Guest comment: No rival to the SMS text exists in the market today
SMS is the obvious “lowest common denominator” mobile marketing solution... yet critics still talk about apps and website and vouchers. Darren Daws, Managing Director at Txtlocal argues why SMS is still the best mobile marketing medium, even on smartphones.
