John Menzies Digital, a digital magazine service for UK publishers and retailers, has appointed search engine marketing specialist DBD Media following a competitive pitch.

DBD Media will manage the digital newsagent's paid search (PPC) and provide search engine optimisation (SEO) consultancy to increase online subscriptions and downloads.

John Menzies Digital is an arm of UK magazine distributor John Menzies.

DBD Media will develop and implement integrated PPC and SEO campaigns to deliver targeted users and high visibility across all the major search engines.

The appointment follows the launch of John Menzies Digital's magazine site www.magazinesondemand.co.uk, where magazines from all major publishers including IPC, Bauer, The National Magazine Company Haymarket and Dennis are available for download.

Sarah Clegg, managing director of John Menzies Digital, said:  "In a competitive market where we need to create an impact, we consider it critical to work with a dedicated search specialist.  As a new and purely online business a strong SEO and PPC campaign is an essential element in our marketing plans and longer term investment.   DBD Media has an established reputation and a proven track record in the media industry, making them the right partner for John Menzies Digital."

Nigel Muir, managing director of DBD Media, added:  "With publishers struggling to monetise on and offline content, this initiative is a perfect example of how traditional publishing activity can be bolstered by digital.  With competitors only a click away, John Menzies Digital grasps the power of search as an acquisition channel and the importance of integrating SEO and PPC to achieve high rankings and volume traffic."

Right to reply: The New Twitter – a sticky, revenue-rich service that blitzes the third-party apps
Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…

Right to reply: ‘Instant Search’– Google giveth then taketh away
Google has just announced its “streaming search” service, Google Instant, is coming out of limited Beta testing and going live for all users. According to Adam Bunn, Head of Search at leading independent search and social marketing agency Greenlight, when it comes to search engine optimisation campaigns (SEO), some websites may now suffer a drop in traffic.
