Following Jonathan Ross’s announcement that Jon Ronson’s‘The Men Who Stare At Goats’ is to be the first book discussed on his Twitter organised book club, Pan Macmillan have released the title as a web edition, using the Exact Editions digital platform.
Pan Macmillan are offering the book for free access during the Twitter discussion which is scheduled to take place between 5.00pm and 6.00pm this Sunday evening.
Twitterers will be able to reference their tweets to individual page links.
A free preview of the publication can be seen at: http://www.exacteditions.com/menwhostareatgoats.
The free preview allows for reading of the first chapter; the search results are available in a 'snippet' format.
To search, browse and read the book in full requires a subscription of £4.99 – except on Sunday evening when the book will be freely available for an hour. It can be bought online and access is immediate.
This is the first time that a trade publisher has made a fiction title freely available to facilitate a live online discussion.
The digital version allows anyone who has not yet been able to get their hands on a copy due to the high demand for the title to start reading straight away.
Daryl Rayner, Managing Director of Exact Editions said: "We are delighted to be working with Pan Macmillan on the launch of the digital edition of ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’. Given the online environment of the @atwossybookclub it makes absolute sense for the Twitterati to be given the opportunity to link to the web pages they are discussing in their tweets.”
Sara Lloyd, Digital Director, of Pan Macmillan said: "Jonathan Ross made the sudden announcement that ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’ was to be his first book club pick just a few days ago. Since then there has been great interest in the title and we are thrilled to be able to offer it as a digital version through the Exact Editions platform.”
