Google has expanded its mobile location service ‘Latitudes’ to allow non-Latitude users to see their friends locations via blogs and IM services.
Latutude users can now add their location information to their Web sites, blogs, and Google Talk status.
Rohan Seth, a software engineer for Google Mobile, wrote in a blog post:
"Google public location badge lets you publish your Latitude location on your public Web site or blog. You can just embed the standard badge. When you enable this application, your location will be shared publicly and you will not be able to control who can or cannot see it."
Gmail users, meanwhile, can also opt to update their Google Talk status with location info. "It will automatically update your status message to your current city as you move, and anyone who can chat with you will be able to see this location status," Seth wrote.
Seth added: "Your location will not be shared with any application without your consent. Both apps adhere to the same terms and conditions -- you must explicitly opt in to the application and of course, you can always disable an app by going back to the app's page."
