B2B firms in the US are set to increase expenditure on social media, as they attempt to navigate their way through current financial difficulties, according to new research.
Forrester predicts that expenditure will rise from $716m (£492m) to at least $3.1bn (£2.1bn) between 2009 and 2014, at an annual rate of 34%.
This is part of an expected rise in spend on interactive marketing from $25.5bn (£17.5bn) to almost $55bn (£38bn) over the same period.
The forecast was announced at Forester's recent Marketing Forum, ahead of the publication of a full report due later in the spring.
Earlier this year, Forrester urged B2B firms to keep pace with investments into social media in order to reach the 77% of technology decision-makers who engage with social networks as part of their job.
