Video search engine blinkx, is now offering blinkx BBTV without download, meaning viewers can watch straight from their browser.
As with the previous version of BBTV, the new Web-based release enables users to browse or interact with online sources related to the program they are watching straight from their browser, such as Google, Wikipedia, IMDB or other Web sites offering relevant information.
“Delivering a Web-based version of blinkx BBTV was a natural evolution for us,” said Suranga Chandratillake, CEO and founder of blinkx. “Advances in streaming technology and the pervasiveness of broadband have made software downloads an unnecessary obstacle for audiences. We’re delighted to be able to now offer users our ground-breaking online television product directly through their browser.”
While watching programs or movies on blinkx BBTV, viewers can instantly access features never before possible, including transcripts of the audio track and background information on everything from actors and personalities, to reviews and locations shown within the video.
In coming months, blinkx will be adding dozens of additional channels and premium video content to the Web-based BBTV offering. BBTV is fully compatible with blinkx AdHoc, blinkx’s contextual advertising platform.
Blinkx has more than 350 partners and 26 million hours of indexed video and audio content, and uses advanced speech and visual recognition technologies designed to deliver results that are more accurate and reliable than standard metadata-based keyword searches.
