Greenvoice.com, a not-for-profit web site that enables like-minded people to take action on the green issues launching a Facebook and Bebo campaign to encourage the community to say no to excess packaging.
The viral campaign, created and implemented by agency the 7th Chamber, is a humorous play on a man who gets wrapped up in plastic as he walks past supermarkets on his way to meet his girlfriend.
Greenvoice want to get viewers to sign a petition to lobby the government to stop the overuse of plastic packaging by products and supermarkets. The campaign is targeted towards a younger audience who Greenvoice believe are more active with environmental issues.
A Facebook page has been created to generate fans of the campaign and the viral is being seeded within the Bebo community. The petition on Greenvoice.com has already been signed by over 1000 people since launch.
The UK produces enough packaging waste in one year to fill Wembley Stadium almost nine times over. Each person in the UK spends about £125 on packaging a year!
Even though the general public are encouraged to recycle, businesses, who contribute about 90% of all waste, are asked to do nothing. This can't be right in the face of all our efforts.
A spokesperson for Greenvoice.com said: "Despite all of our efforts, domestic waste generated has still gone up 20% over the last ten years, so it is time for the business sector to act as well."
