3BILL, the mobile division of Symbios Group, has bought social networking platform face-pic for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition is the third significant deal for 3BILL in the last six months, following the purchase of ProfileHeaven.com and Faces.com, an international social network.

The company said this combined user-base will rival some of the UK’s most popular social networks, and the launch of a new site on the premium Faces.com domain name is planned for November 2008.

New site features will include imaginative games, improved messaging and chat facilities, mobile connectivity and a new dynamic interface.

The acquisition of Face-pic.com, a global photo-sharing site boasting around 700,000 users and web traffic of over 25,000 unique users a day, includes all of the assets owned by the company, transfer of the domain, and the user base. The company was formed in 1999, and was one of the first social networks.

Martin Montague, CEO of 3BILL, said: “We want to offer our users a break-through social network that appeals to the adventurous spirit, helps join people with like-minded interests and knocks the spots off anything available at the moment.  The inclusion of Face-pic.com to our portfolio widens our horizons and will provide our combined user-base with 700,000 more potential friends.

“Our plans are underway for the launch of Faces.com and we are delighted to welcome Face-pic.com users into the growing community. This will be a start up with a difference as we will have over 1.5 Million members on launch. ”

Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…
