London digital agency Airlock has designed and built a website to support the launch of the new BBC Radio 4 landmark series World on the Move, (WOTM).
WOTM airs weekly and charts the migrations of upward of twenty species over the course of a year.
The series consists of forty half hourly programmes. Airlock has made use of Google Maps to plot the migrations as they unfold. The agency is a specialist in merging on and offline media, using proprietary technology to increase the user experience.
The site is designed to enhance the broadcast content, visualising the programmes and providing additional content around each of the species.
The site also provides a focus for user generated content, allowing users to upload their own images as well providing the opportunity to enter into direct discussion with the programme makers. Content generated on the site is fed back to the production team for use in the broadcast programme.
Airlock worked with the teams at BBC Radio 4 and the BBC Natural History Unit to develop and deliver the project.
Airlock's new content management system integrates directly with the BBC's infrastructure, providing a seamless solution.
Joseph Denne, Technical Director at Airlock, said: "We are working with our clients to blur the boundaries between on and offline media. We firmly believe that this is the future… users taking content from a range of sources and converging them to create content-rich learning experiences."
