MySpace and Vertigo Films are searching for music to feature on the film soundtrack to ‘Faintheart’ a user-generated feature film shaped by the MySpace community.

From today, visitors to uk.myspace.com/mymoviemashup2 have the chance to create tracks for the British-made film, which will be released to UK audiences in the autumn.

The soundtrack competition is the final stage of the MyMovieMashup project – a collaboration between MySpace, Vertigo Films, Film4, UK Film Council, Slingshot Studios and Screen WM.

MySpace users have been invited to take part in each stage of the production process, from choosing the director and editing the script, to auditioning for a role and working with the production team.

MySpace and Vertigo films are now inviting unsigned bands and amateur composers to create tracks for a number of scenes within the film and be part of its history.

The closing date for entries is 24th March, when a shortlist of five entries will be selected by a judging panel, including Faintheart director Vito Rocco and music supervisor Lol Hammond from Vertigo Films. Each of the five chosen will make the film’s soundtrack album, but following a two week public vote by MySpace users, three will also be used in the actual film.  The final results will be announced on 7th April.

Dom Cook, Director of Marketing and Content at MySpace UK, said: “MyMovieMashup has been an incredible project so far – we have been astounded by the support and contribution from the MySpace community. We’re excited about this final stage of this project – with more than 10 million artists and bands on MySpace it’s the best place to discover new musical talent and we can’t wait to see the finished result.”

Faintheart is a comedy that follows the lives of a group of people who re-enact Viking battle scenes as a hobby.

Vito Rocco, director of Faintheart, added: "I'm looking to the MySpace community to create the music for the world of the film. It's simple, homemade, hopeful, uplifting, a bit kooky, a bit sad. It's the music of heroic failures."

Lol Hammond, Faintheart’s music supervisor, said: “This is a great opportunity for undiscovered artists to be heard alongside established bands. Whoever is selected will receive equal billing and royalty rates too, so there’s also money to be made!”

Anyone interested in the competition or film can visit the MyMovieMashup profile for further details: www.uk.myspace.com/mymoviemashup2.
