The official website of UEFA Euro 2008 has registered record traffic, with over 1 billion page views since its launch in February 2008.

Interestingly, people from the UK have made up the highest proportion of visitors, despite none of their national teams qualifying for the finals.

In June alone, over 42 million visitors from over 200 countries logged-in to text, multimedia and video coverage of the EURO matches.

Up to 4.3 million visitors logged-in on a single day of the tournament, and up to half a million visitors per hour follow live coverage on the web.

These traffic numbers represent an increase of over 250% compared to euro2004.com four years ago, even though the tournament is still in its final stages, and the traffic numbers are still coming in.

"For the first time, all content is distributed from one centralised source, feeding into the overall euro2008.com offering and fulfilling the video, audio, text and photo content needs of the converging world - football content is available whenever and however they want it”, said Alexandre Fourtoy, CEO of UEFA Media Technologies SA, UEFA’s subsidiary in charge of site production.

Around 800,000 visitors have accessed the free video Magazine section, while over 1.2 million have accessed the Replay video section.

Over 800,000 visitors have accessed the website through a wireless or mobile device.

This is the first time that the official EURO website has offered video coverage in three different ways - live match simulcast in collaboration with UEFA broadcasting partners, video on demand offering individual matches, and highlights and free videos produced as vodcasts shown twice a day, with news interviews and reports direct from the streets of Austria and Switzerland.

David Farrelly, editor-in-chief of the content team at euro2008.com said: "The web is a great way to provide information to the millions of fans around the world, and combining it with the latest technology helps provide in-depth information for the new generation of football fans who are increasingly able to multi-task and browse multiple devices at the same time."

63% of visitors to the site come from Europe, 20% come from the Americas, 14% are from Asia and the remaining 3% are from the rest of the world.

From the 10 languages the site offers, English is the most popular with 73% of traffic, followed by German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

The 10 countries with the most visitors coming to euro2008.com are the United Kingdom (15%), US (8%), Germany (8%), Canada (5%) and Finland (4%), followed by Italy, Spain, France, Turkey and Switzerland, who all total around 3% or less of the total visitors.
