Metacafe has hired mobile content delivery firm Zed to make its video sharing site available to mobile users.

Metacafe has integrated a “Send 2 Mobile” functionality, from Zed, which lets users stream or download selected videos to their mobile devices.

Zed offers a downloadable mobile application that enables instant access to videos through just one click from the Metacafe site – making it quick, easy and convenient to enjoy entertainment on the go.

“As the leading mobile content company, a collaboration between Zed and Metacafe, one of the leaders in Web 2.0 services, is the logical transition for expanding  social networks to the mobile sphere,” said Javier Pérez Dolset, Founder and CEO of Zed.

“Extending the Metacafe entertainment experience to the mobile platform is the next natural step as we grow into a global media company focused on short-form video,” said Erick Hachenburg, CEO of Metacafe.  “We’re pleased to be working with Zed in the first phase of this extension.”

Together with this online video agreement, Zed will also offer Metacafe viewers the option of downloading a personalized version of its PC and cellular application, StatiOn.

Zed StatiOn is an integrated online and mobile platform that aggregates instant messenger clients (Yahoo, Gtalk, MSN and AOL) and offers applications and widgets that allow users to seamlessly interact with and update their assorted online networks or communities from their phone or PC.

As a result, users are never out of sync with their social networks, which drives new levels of use across both Web and mobile.

Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…
