Fitness First teams up with social network

Lifestyle-based social network Realbuzz.com has announced a long term partnership with Fitness First health and fitness clubs.

The move is designed to encourage gym goers to keep attending by finding colleagues to go with them. Recent research from the Journal of the American Medical Association has revealed that those people who train and share insights in groups lose three times more weight than those who go it alone.

The deal gives Realbuzz users a three day pass to the world’s largest gym chain and support from a network of other gym users realbuzz.com.

realbuzz.com revealed that 25 percent of Britons find their workmates more motivational than their family members. One in four claimed that they found new acquaintances more motivational than either family or friends.

The findings imply there are social barriers to overcome when beginning a fitness regime and these obstacles aren’t that apparent when we partake in such activities with colleagues. realbuzz.com provides people with the platform to speak to each other, and motivate those who are waning.

Tim Rogers, CEO and founder realbuzz.com - himself a Guinness World Record holder and veteran of over 60 marathons – said “I think we can all admit that we’ve all broken New Year’s resolutions and that they are a pretty ineffective way of changing a part of our lifestyle.”

“To really make a difference, people need to commit to that first step and then maintain the momentum. We’ve found that those who train in groups are far more successful and stick with it longer than those who go it alone. As such this partnership is the ideal way for both Fitness First and realbuzz.com users to take that first vital step with the support of others.”

David Jones, head of customer relationship management at Fitness First said “realbuzz.com is a perfect affiliation for us. Our members can now benefit from even more training tips, forums and groups dedicated to getting and staying fit. And when their resolve is wavering there is always someone to encourage you in our clubs or online!”

Twitter is now a 'destination website' and that means it is gunning for Facebook, but cleverly avoiding a direct dogfight. It’s more an information network than a social network and so is offering much, much more. Tanya Goodin, CEO of search and social conversion agency Tamar comments…
