3 debuts 'Facebook phone'

Mobile network operator has launched the first handset designed to fully integrate Facebook’s features into the traditional functions of a mobile phone, such as a contacts book and text messages.

The device, called INQ1 (pronounced ‘ink one’) is the first phone from new handset maker INQ, a venture set up earlier in the year by 3's owner Hutchison Whampoa.

 

Due to be released in time for Christmas, the INQ1 will be free for anyone willing to sign up to an 18-month contract at just £15 a month or £80 for pay as you go users.

 

The device integrates functions from social media sites Facebook, Skype Windows Live messenger and Last.fm into the phone.

 

The network is billing the phone as the ‘first ever real-time interactive, live contact book with friends’ online status and Facebook profile pictures displayed against their contact details’.

 

The INQ1 is a slider phone, and features include a 3.2Mp camera, 2.2inch display and High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) supporting data speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. 

 

The phone also offers integrated RSS feeds, free Skype-to-Skype calling and unlimited free instant messenger capabilities.
