Social network creates global poll of user tastes

Social networking site Poll the People' has launched with the aim to find the everyman's greatest albums, films and books of all time.
The site, founded by Glenn Cooper, former Head of Digital at Island Records, also brings like-minded people together to share their tastes and recommendations through Top 5 Lists.
Users create a profile and submit their top five albums, books and films with their choices counting towards the sites' evolving Global Polls.
The Polls are searchable by genre and link directly to the affiliate partner, Amazon, who provide the site's product database.
User's Top 5s can be changed at any time which keeps them coming back to the site and ensures the Polls are an accurate barometer of current tastes.
Launch partners for the site include Penguin Books, Transworld Publishers, Polydor, Mercury, Atlantic, Parlophone and Island Records.
The site is currently in Beta and is due to officially launch in late April. Author Nick Hornby,who popularized the concept of ‘top 5’ lists in his best selling novel "Hi-Fidelity" is confirmed to provide his Top 5 lists for the official launch.
During the Beta test phase, exclusive polls to promote Michael Jackson's 25th anniversary 'Thriller' release and The Rolling Stones collaboration with Martin Scorsese on the 'Shine A Light' film soundtrack have run successfully.
The site, designed by digital creative marketing agency Hyperlaunch, also features a Research Extranet which enables multiple carves of the demographic information across all Polls to give a valuable insight into the specific tastes of targeted groups by gender / age / region / country.
The Brand strategy for 2008 includes plans to introduce "Poll The People Top 50 Rated" Retail stickers to drive CD / DVD / Book sales in Q4 and there is also interest in creating a TV show format.
