The new tool, called OpenSocial, uses a set of APIs (application programming interfaces) to help developers distribute their software on some of the most popular social networking sites more easily.
At launch partners supporting OpenSocial include social networking sites: Oracle, Salesforce.com, Hi5, iLike, LinkedIn, Slide, Ning, Friendster and Plaxo.
However, the top two social networks, MySpace and Facebook, are not partners at time of giung to press.
The OpenSocial APIs offers developers three JavaScript and Gdata APIs to access social functions and a live developer ‘sandbox’ on Google’s own social network, Orkut, for testing.
Google added that it will be offering a tool to help Web site owners to OpenSocial-enable their sites and a support forum.
