UCAS launches Web 2.0 site for students

Added:
Apr 30, 2007

The site, at www.yougofurther.co.uk, combines a variety of Web 2.0 tools such as social networking, User Generated Content (UGC) and forums with content from brand partners.

Students can also post up their own work in  an interactive zone in a bid to get seen, get heard, get recognised  and rewarded.

The talented can win ‘money can’t buy’ prizes designed  to help students enhance their CVs.

Yougofurther.co.uk (yougo) also helps brands target the  student market as it is powered by UCAS’  student database.

In 2006, more than half a million students applied for higher education through UCAS so it is no  surprise that launch partners for the site include leading brands  such as iTunes
(www.iTunes.com/uk), doctorjob.com, Lonely Planet,  Fopp Records and Cult Clothing as
well as information provider  MoneySavingExpert.com and housing charity Shelter.

Designed exclusively for those in Higher Education, only students  will be able to join
the yougo community by using their UCAS ID or  university/college email address to logon.
On submitting their UCAS  application, students will be able to search by  University/College  and interests, allowing them to make friends before starting HE; an important resource for all new freshers.

Students can choose from six channels packed with content - Jobs,  Money, Lifestyle,
Network, Exposure and the Shop.

Premium content  will be provided across the site from partners such as  MoneySavingExpert.com, iTunes, Lonely Planet and  doctorjob.com (provided by GTI).

A panel of student writers will work alongside the brands to deliver their unique insight into life  at university.

Users are also encouraged to express their opinions, share advice and discuss important issues in the live forums that underpin every channel.

An ‘Exposure’ channel enables students  to publish their work by responding to briefs set by commercial  partners.  Students can even influence the selection of the winner by rating and commenting on other students work.

CV enhancing rewards at launch include Tell us your dream ‘escape’ and win a day in Paris with a Lonely  Planet Travel writer Upload your music and top the bill at yougo’s glittering launch party  at Fopp records Design an outfit and win an opportunity with Cult clothing.

Students have the chance to join the yougo editorial panel and yougo  community by submitting regular features for the site itself.  All  members will be encouraged play a  key role in the shape and  development of yougo, giving students a sense of real ownership over  the site.

Lisa Feege, Project Manager at UCAS Media comments:  “Yougofurther.co.uk will offer  real value to students throughout  their university or college career. By combining innovative Web 2.0  features with exclusive content from our brand partners and  opportunities for students to get involved and get their work  displayed, we have created a fantastic new platform for students to  help them get the most out of their time at university and ultimately  progress their careers.”
