Feb 26, 2007

The company has been working with retail and e-commerce consultancy, Javelin Group, to advise on technology and web agency selection, and to implement the new e-commerce platform.

Virgin Retail then selected companies hybris, Mercado and Underwired to create the new website at www.virginmegastores.co.uk.

E-business software solutions firm  hybris was chosen to provide the overall e-commerce platform, while E-commerce search and merchandising solution specialist, Mercado, to provide the search and navigation engines. Meanwhile design agency Underwired will redesign the website.

In addition to the development of the new site, Virgin Retail is planning to increase the product breadth of its CD, DVD and Games catalogue as well as taking additional entertainment related product and delivering rich media content.

The re-development of the website will also bring all website management and development in-house at Virgin Retail for the first time, with greater control and flexibility to build new features and functionality onto the platform. There will be an improved customer order solution for all stores as part of the new site.

Virgin Retail has had a transactional website since September 2002 and in the last 12 months, in line with the market in general, has seen a surge in sales with Christmas rising by 191% on the previous year.
