NTL rolls out quad-play for £40 a month

The move follows NTL Telewest’s  acquisition of Virgin Mobile earlier this year, with the company planning to to rebrand itself under the Virgin name in 2007.

The new package offers 2MB broadband, 30 digital TV channels including video-on-demand, unlimited fixed-line weekend calls to any UK landline and 300 texts and 300 mobile minutes a month.

Neil Berkett, chief operating officer of ntl Telewest, commented: "Quadplay demonstrates the unique power of the cable-Virgin Mobile union and this is just the beginning. Our new package represents unbeatable value while meeting a wide range of consumers' entertainment and communication needs.

"It's more than just another cut-price offer, because it also equips customers for the infinite possibilities presented as these different technologies increasingly interact."

The new service aims to attract customers away from competitors such as Sky,BT and Carphonme Warehouse.

Commenting on the move, Chris Williams, communications expert at price comparison service uSwitch.com said: “By bringing mobiles into the fold of its existing bundle of three products, NTL is effectively providing a £10 per month mobile deal. Although it’s good value for those who want all of the products on offer, consumers need to take a step back and fully understand what they are getting for their money before they take the plunge of signing up to one company for all of their products.

Williams continues: “NTL will be looking to boost customer retention with this offer, coupled with upgrading these new customers to higher-value packages in the future. Being able to add two or three children's cheap mobile deals to the family broadband and home phone bills will be very attractive to families but it isn’t necessarily the best option if you are a heavy mobile phone user.”

NTL has about 5 million customers compared with rival BSkyB's 8.2 million.
