Going live on 9 October, the Coms broadband telephony service will let consumers choose their own personal telephone number and use it to make low cost, high quality phone calls wherever a wireless high-speed internet connection is available.

Manufactured by UTStar, the F1000 and F3000 Wi-Fi VoIP handsets feature a backlit LCD display, roaming between Wi-Fi access points and come with up to four hours talk time, and up to 100-hours standby time, address book and a built in web server for administration.

Each handset automatically searches for and connects to any Wi-Fi access point, even when using a public network.    Full details on the handsets are available at www.Coms.com.

Terry Martin, CEO of Coms, said: "We believe that the real driver of VoIP take up will be the handsets. Wireless networks are popping up all over the place nowadays. Our range of desirable, 'mobile-esque' handsets means that making phone calls via the Internet or on the move has finally become a viable option for consumers.

“The functionality of our handsets is very similar to standard mobiles, so users wont need to learn how to use yet another device. In fact all they should notice is a dramatic drop in their phone bills" Martin added.
