London 2012 appoints new media chief

Balfour will be responsible for the site www.London2012.com. He will also lead the creation, development and management of online structures and facilities for London 2012 over the next six years.

 

Commenting on his new role, Balfour said: "London is a world centre for the digital creative industries and I look forward to working with leading digital businesses over the next six years and showing the world what we can achieve."

 

Balfour was co-founder and Chairman of CricInfo with 20 million customers. Prior to joining CricInfo he was a senior member of the team that launched the Guardian Newspaper's websites.

 

More recently Alex co-founded a sports rights company called Investors in Cricket and developed and sold two new properties, an international Twenty20 cricket tournament and a reality cricket show for the Indian market.

 

He joins the London 2012 Organising Committee at the start of this month.
