Lost property website goes live

Jul 17, 2006

The site, at www.loseitback.com is a managed ‘loss protection and recovery’ service. Users can buy specially designed labels to attach to personal items such as a mobile phone.

Each label is numbered and has a ‘return for reward’ notice on it. In the unfortunate event an item is lost, a member of staff, a police officer, a good Samaritan or a citizen motivated by a reward can log online and report it found.

Once Loseitback.com receives notification of a found item, a member of the call centre liaises between finder and loser to get the item returned.

The reward is ten Loseitback.com labels but the customer also has the option of adding a financial figure to when activating their label.

Loseitback.com is already working in partnership with a number of product manufacturers and insurance companies to offer Loseitback labels with their products or insurance cover.

The firm said the savings for insurance companies in claim reduction could be significant.

Loseitback.com is also offering its service to the general public from its Ebay shop.

Scott Simon Barlow, managing director, said: “In the UK, a lot of people are registered on Ebay and PayPal, so we thought it would be ideal to sell direct to the public via an online shop. We are also currently in discussions with major supermarkets to sell in their stores and many online stores will be re-selling our labels. “

Loseitback.com can also design bespoke labels and re-brand the labels with a company’s logo.

Loseitback.com customers pay only for the cost of the labels, with packs ranging from £8.99 to £29.99. When an item of lost property is returned, the customer pays a £10 admin fee plus shipping.

Loseitback.com claims that 90% of lost items have been returned to owners.
