Yahoo! told to Flick off

The news is revealed on Flickr’s FAQ page concerning the Yahoo! takeover, and shows that all independent Flickr users will eventually require a Yahoo! ID to log in to the service.
"We will be migrating all independent Flickr accounts to Yahoo's network in 2006,” the message reads.
“At that time, if you have not done so already, you will be asked to create a Yahoo ID (or link your account to your Yahoo ID if you already have one) in order to continue using your account."
In protest, more than 640 Flickr site members have signed up to group Flick Off, where they threaten to abandon their accounts a day before the imposed deadline in 2006.
Yahoo! bought Flickr after it launched Yahoo! 360, a social network that combines a blogging tool, instant messaging, photo storage and sharing, and internet radio.
In a bid to capitalise on the change, rival US photo firm Photomax is encouraging Flickr users displeased with the Yahoo! merger to join its own network.
"Yahoo has created a flap with its merger of Flickr users into a new Yahoo version of Flickr, but disgruntled Flickr loyalist have options with Photomax", said Glenn Garnes, an independent distributor with the company. "We are ready to service all photo fans who are not happy about Yahoo's plan for them."
