The figures from Web monitoring firm Hitwise revealed that MSN Spaces and LiveJournal dominated the market.
However, myspace the blogging firm recently snapped up for $580m by Rupert Mudoch’s News International from Intermix, is rapidly gaining in popularity, with a 500% increase since it debuted in the Hitwise ranks in September 2004.
Currently the fourth biggest blogging site in the UK, blog.myspace.com has seen a particularly sharp surge in traffic over the last six months as the word-of-mouth popularity has spread, causing it to become the 25th most visited destination in the UK in June.
Hitwise said a major appeal of myspace is its appeal to the lucrative 18-24 age market, with its strong emphasis on publicising the latest upcoming bands and hosting new music releases.
Hitwise Demographics reveals that more than 30% of visitors to MySpace are from this age demographic, 21% higher than the average for Blog sites.
