Launching this Month, mrVisitor was created by advertising and media entrepreneur Matt Cooper, and is billed as “the local directory for the whole country".

The site content will come from travel journalists who will highlight the best local bars and clubs, boutiques, restaurants and hotels.  The site will also detail events, live gigs and local landmarks to appeal to 25 - 45 year olds looking to make the most of their weekends.

Recollective has been responsible for the design and build of the site, which features a scooter-riding cartoon character mrVisitor, created by Engage Studios.

A free itinerary service allows users to click through a series of tick box menus to receive personalised information.

Once a user's journey has been planned, an itinerary is automatically compiled,  along with related reviews, maps and guides.

Frances O'Reilly, creative director and co-founder of Recollective, said: "Many sites offer vast amounts of tourist information but they do not allow you to bring your search together.

"We also wanted to help people who were trying to organise big groups, so we added functionality which allows people to send their Travel Lists to their friends, easing the organisational hassles involved in such gatherings," O'Reilly added.

Businesses are invited to complete a free “List Your Business” form which is submitted to mrVisitor's editorial team.  They then decide whether to include the information on the site’s content.

Matt Cooper, mrVisitor founder, said: "The travel industry desperately needed one authoritative online resource whose content was not affected by a commercial agenda, somewhere where you could find recommendations that you knew you could trust.”
