The new site now allows users to compare offers across borders, with the site automatically managing currency and language conversions and calculating the cost of shipping.

The firm claims that around 20% of the offers available to consumers in France are from merchants in foreign countries, and this is expected to nearly double by the end of the year.

The US-based firm said the new feature will also benefit merchants, who can now increase their customer reach to include the estimated 98 million European online shoppers.

Shopping.com has formed partnerships with major French retailers, including clothing merchant La Redoute, part of the PPR group; electronics firm Pixmania; Apple computers; and wine merchant Chateauonline.

Shopping.com was launched in 2003 as the new brand of Dealtime.com, founded in 1997, and Epinions.com, founded in 1999.

The firm is currently the third most visited online retail site in the US, behind eBay and Amazon, where it attracts some 20 million unique visitors each month.

Daniel Ciporin, chairman and CEO of Shopping.com, said: “Shopping.com’s presence in France will revolutionize online retailing and help deliver on the promise of a common European market.”
