Flickr enables users to personalise photo collections on the web, where they can store, sort, search and share their photos. It supports a variety of publishing and capture formats, including camera phones and RSS feeds.
In a statement on the site, Canada-based Ludicorp said Flickr will continue to operate as a stand-alone service, while "Yahoo!":http://www.netimperative.com/search?sort_on=Date&sort_order=descending&SearchableText=yahoo Photos will integrate many of its features.
Flickr said the deal will mean it can improve its service for users. Pro account holders will get extra features, which will be announced soon, while both pro and free account holders will have more storage and uploads.
The deal follows Yahoo!’s trial launch last week of its new blogging tool, "Yahoo! 360":http://www.netimperative.com/2005/03/17/Yahoo_blogging/.
The service integrates instant messenger, photos, local search, music and groups alongside new tools including blogs, mobile blogs and sharing tools for recommending movies and restaurants amongst others.
Yahoo! said it plans to expand the test with extra features within six weeks of its initial launch, which could incorporate Flickr’s photo sharing features.
