The "PayWizard site":http://www.paywizard.org has gathered data from Unions and academics in a number of countries are working together to create a series of national online pay checkers.
The pay data will be improved as users complete an anonymous salary survey on the site.
The network was launched to address the lack of pay and conditions information faced by researchers, academics and trade unions trying to evaluate national and international pay trends.
The salary information collected will form a publicly available data source, which can be compared between countries.
Nine European countries are currently participating in PayWizard, with other countries such as the US, China and India now preparing to take part.
Project partner organisations in the UK are the TUC and Incomes Data Services, the UK's leading employment research organisation.
The PayWizard pay checker allows workers to check their salary against others doing the same job. They can find out what they could earn in other careers, and uncover regional differentials.
Brendan Barber TUC General Secretary said: “For too many people pay has been surrounded in secrecy, making the perfect environment for inequality and discrimination to flourish undetected. This website shines a light on the issue."
