“MMS Group Chat” will allow users to interact in a chatroom by sending both SMS and MMS messages.
The white-label application allows companies to brand and market the service under their own name, and the firm claims the solution can go live within 24 hours of being installed.
The firm is primarily targeting the service at existing Internet chatrooms and online dating agencies looking to expand their services into the mobile channel.
In a bid to eliminate chatroom abuse, Echovox said all messages and content will be constantly moderated through a web-based console.
For adult services, Echovox said it will request age verification and ensure content is compliant with network operator and country regulations.
SMS Chat, its precursor, has across Europe and among Echovox’s top
ten customers alone, the service has carries nearly 10 million messages
per month.
David A. Marcus, CEO of Echovox, said the service was developed in response to demand more than 50 of Echovox’s SMS Chat customers, and it will promote MMS Group Chat to its existing users to drive people to the new service.
MMS however has been less successful. MMS is widely acknowledged to have been a flop in Europe as network operators still gain 99 per cent of their data revenues from SMS. This is despite issues of cost, interoperability and availability of handsets having been addressed and the wide availability of camera phones.
