The event will be held on 30th November at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. One hundred men and women, selected through a public vote, will attend, presumably looking for love over video phone.

The network operator is asking for men and women around the country to enter the event by submitting their own video personal ads (to 07915 123123).

Once their ads are recorded they will be posted to www.endoftheblinddate.com where site visitors will be able to browse the submissions before voting for their favourites.

The firm is also creating a live ad for the dating event in the Selfridges, Oxford Street windows.

The installation, in place for two weeks from 18th October, will encourage people to visit the specially installed booths inside the store to record their own video personal ad.

The 100 most popular contestants will take part in the video mobile speed dating event, with a quick video call to each participant. Event organisers will then bring mutually-attracted couples together for a face-to-face meeting in a separate private area.

3's marketing director, Graeme Oxby said: "With technology now available, people can use their mobiles to see and hear their potential partner before meeting them. It's the beginning of the end of the blind date as we know it"
