In a statement released today the company said: “After 4 years serving on the net Jeeves has taken a bit of a break, apparently embarking on a journey of discovery. We are told he will be back but it's still unclear what Jeeves will look like on his return.”
The search firm said it is encouraging all suggestions of “guest butlers”, with further information due to be released on its "web site":http://www.ask.co.uk tommorow.
Between 4pm and 5.30pm today, the Ask UK homepage will feature a silhouette of the Jeeves figure, with the words “Where’s Jeeves?” The new look is already running on its .com domain.
The butler Jeeves was the subject of an eventually-settled dispute between the search engine and the estate of the creator of the Jeeves and Wooster books, PG Wodehouse.
