Previous electronic communications systems within T&G, which was founded in 1922, were not centralised. Rippleffect says the Extranet, which will be up and running next month, will allow the TGWU to communicate more effectively internally and also across its database of more than 800,000 members.

The main features of the extranet include an events calendar, bulk e-mail facilities, image gallery, directory, user recognition and a content management system enabling the ability to easily publish pages and documents.

Rippleffect managing director, Ben Hatton commented: "We are delighted to have won such a prestigious national account. The T&G recognised that they needed to use web based technology to communicate securely with it members. The system we are developing will be user friendly allowing even those with limited IT skills to be able to access and exchange information."

Rippleffect has offices in Liverpool and Manchester and clients spanning both public and private sectors ranging from Everton FC and Living Ventures through to the North West Regional Assembly.
