AOL said yesterday that its battle against junk email has shifted into "high gear" after it seized a luxury Porsche sports car from a "major spammer" in the US. The ISP said that it seized the car at the successful conclusion of a legal action taken by the spammer, who was caught after being reported by members. It now plans to award the Porsche to one luck AOL member through an online sweepstake. "We see this as a great way to teach spammers a lesson, and reward our members for their continued use of the 'Report Spam' button," said Randall Boe, AOL's Executive vice president and general counsel. Last month AOL, along with Microsoft, Yahoo, and Earthlink, announced that they had filed a number of lawsuits against spammers under the new CAN-SPAM legislation that came into effect in the US at the beginning of the year.
