The company, which also runs the Avago iTV games channel, said iSports TV would broadcast a range of global sports content plus a live daily show featuring sports news and comment, as well as discussions with studio guests, industry experts and individual punters.
Featured content will include horseracing, football and specialist sports. The Gaming Channel has inked a deal to broadcast content from the World Series of Racing Championship events in 2004, plus the remaining races in 2003. This includes the Japan Cup, which will be shown exclusively live from Tokyo this Sunday, and the Hong Kong cup, live on Sunday 14 December.
"Horse racing is key ingredient in the sports punter's diet and our World Series agreement ensures that we will offer our viewers the biggest races from around the world," said Damian Cope, MD of The Gaming Channel.
Viewers will also have the opportunity to play iTV games, including Racing World, which the company claims to be the world's first iTV virtual horse racing game, which allows punters to bet on races from virtual racetracks around the world via the red button on their remote controls.
The launch of iSports TV, which went live on Sky Digital at EPG slot number 431 this week, fits in with The Gaming Channel's plan to develop further iTV channels.
The privately funded company launched itself into the market in September, when it took over the operations of Avago from Digital Interactive Television Group (DTIG), which had been operating it on its behalf since the launch in July 2002.
Avago has attracted more than 100,000 Sky viewers since last summer and had developed an annual turnover of £30m. The Gaming Channel plans to extend Avago services to internet and mobile applications, as well as launch further iTV channels.
