Sportech reports surge in revenue

The company boosted group revenues by 10% to £106m after betting turnover leapt by a third, with soft gaming revenues weighing in at £53m. The soft gaming unit reported operating profits in excess of £10m, helping Sportech post a £6.1m pretax profit for the group as a whole.

Sportech expects to launch more soft betting services - such as games linked to programming content - over the coming months, in line with ITV's roll-out of its round-the-clock interactive TV service, called 'ITVi'.

These new games and betting services will lead to the triggering of Sportech's exclusive long-term contract with the broadcaster in early-2004. New products planned for launch include a Pop Idol-based game and 24/7 sports betting service, accessible via the red button.

The company has already successfully trialled a game based on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here and recently launched an interactive TV betting service for horse racing broadcaster attheraces.

Sportech transferred its online casino operations from the Isle Of Man to the Netherlands Antilles in early-September due to problems associated with the island's restrictive gaming licences.

The move will help it expand littlewoodscasino.com and other web gaming services, including poker. Sportech currently has more than 70 online betting products available to punters.
