The service, which is available across all four UK mobile networks, enables users of WAP-enabled handsets to get instant access to location-specific information on cars they are interested in buying.

It was built by Green Cathedral, using its LittleWasp WAP publishing engine, and incorporates the mobile access and charging system from Bango.net.

Users pay £1 a day to browse the database, and an additional 10 pence to view contact details and photographs of cars. Users can access the service by texting 'go exm' or 'go autoex' to 89081.

A reply activates the WAP browser, and Bango.net directs the user straight to the service with £1.50 ready to spend. The user then chooses the car they are interested in and is presented with ads that match the criteria.

United Advertising Publications, which publishes Exchange & Mart and Auto Exchange, said it plans to promote the new service on the front cover of both magazines, which have a combined circulation of more than 500,000 copies a week, and on the Exchange & Mart website.
