The survey, of Internet World exhibitors and delegates, discovered that seven out of ten organisations are likely to increase their internet IT spend this year, while only 3% said it would be reduced.

The number of companies that generate more than three-quarters of total sales via the internet rose by about 30%, reflecting the importance of the web as a route to market.

Wireless is also seen to be increasingly vital as a sales channel, with more than half of all companies without a wireless strategy (38%) set to adopt one in the next 12 months.

About four out of five of respondents were at chairman, director or manager level, with direct influence over buying decisions.

More than 9,000 visitors attended the tenth Internet World exhibition and sister event Mobile Enterprise, hosted by Penton Media.
