SmartFlirts enables users to access the service while they are out and about through their mobile phone to search for and contact other people who are logged onto the system within their vicinity.

Users can create a free profile via the SmartFlirts website, and an SMS profile is formed simultaneously. In addition to web and SMS-based search and chat facilities, SmartFlirts provides an online dating toolkit, including messenger, email, advice and live events, and a range editorial content, competitions and promotions.

Users can also upgrade to a delight or deluxe profile to get access to more features such as the 2way match, the guest list, and the option for profile rating, which cost £8 and £12 per month respectively.

The system, which was developed by media content provider Orion Information Services, is already available in Spain and Denmark, and is also scheduled for launch in the US following the UK launch.

The company also offers the system to partners on a revenue share basis and is looking to sign up partners in the UK. The SmirtFlirts system currently supplies the dating platform for Yahoo's entire Nordic region, and it can be rebranded and integrated into a partner's existing website.

In the UK, customers of Vodafone, O2, Orange and T-Mobile can access SmartFlirt SMS services.

SMS is the obvious “lowest common denominator” mobile marketing solution... yet critics still talk about apps and website and vouchers. Darren Daws, Managing Director at Txtlocal argues why SMS is still the best mobile marketing medium, even on smartphones.
