The company, which develops technology for video distribution over the fixed and wireless internet, said BT's Broadcast Services unit has agreed to trial a new generation of video streaming services that will be offered to content owners and broadcasters.

The majority of the UK's broadcast media content is routed through BT Tower and can be converted into various different media formats by BT Broadcast Services, including Forbidden's.

Media companies using Forbidden's services will now be able to stream television-like video content to GPRS and 3G mobile networks.

Forbidden has been waiting for faster fixed and wireless networks to emerge to make the most of its technology. In the first six months of 2002 it generated a mere £5,350 in sales, but its compression and playback technology is now market ready.

The market may also be ready for Forbidden's services. Wireless companies in particular are working on enhanced services to attract consumers towards 3G - Vodafone last week announced that its Vodafone live! programme has surpassed 1m subscribers, just four months after it first launched.

Forbidden's shares surged by more than 20% to 32p.
