BT denied reports today that it is planning to launch internet services alongside the BBC, Sky and Crown Castle's digital TV venture Freeview. A report in a national newspaper said BT Retail would join forces with Freeview to offer access to the internet through web-enabled set-top boxes, and thus gain revenues from connection charges. However, a spokesperson for the firm said the report was "untrue" and "highly speculative". Other ISPs, though, are believed to be looking at such a move. One unnamed firm partnered with set-top box manufacturer Netgem to provide connectivity for its recently-launched I-Player device.
