The company, which yesterday released its broadband adapter in the US for the GameCube console, has included a card with a PIN number in its games or hardware products. Gamers can enter the PIN on its Nintendo Europe website to access various themed desktop and software products, after answering a number of demographic questions.
Desktop themes such as icons, screen savers, backgrounds and wallpaper are available to Nintendo users that register on its website. The company hopes to better understand the needs and buying patterns of its users, as a result of the research.
Meanwhile, Nintendo Europe said it will appeal a heavy fine - EU149m - imposed by the European Commission following an investigation into a price fixing cartel. The company said although it accepts that its distribution did not comply with EU rules, the size of the fine, which it finds "surprising", merits an appeal.
