AdWords allows advertisers to purchase keywords applicable to their own products and pay for clicks made on links provided to their own sites to the right of Google's ordinary search results.
The service, which Google said has been trialled by clients including travel agency Expedia.co.uk, starts at £5, provides online editing and reporting capability and allows advertisers to target users in up to 250 countries.
Google has offered pay-per-click ads in the US for the last year, and began offering an updated version its self-service advertising system, Adwords Select, there in February.
The company has since looked at expanding into global markets including Europe in order to monetise its non-US search users.
The company opened its UK offices in late 2001 to focus on new advertising opportunities and has claimed to have signed up clients including Lloyds TSB Insurance, Kelkoo, BT British Gas, BA and Opodo.
