The company claims its Interact Server reduces the time to market and implementation costs for producers. It can be bought as a standalone product or leased via Purple Lizard's applications service provider.

Purple Lizard director Doug Stoddart said: "Until today, building a return path interactive TV system has been a specialist task. The Interact Server enables programme makers to deliver high value enhanced customer interaction with controlled cost."

The company designed the interactive voting system used on Big Brother by Sky Digital viewers, which provided a platform on which the Interact Server was built.

Users of the new product, which handles 1,000 votes per second, can also access real-time statistics and results over the web. The Java-based application can be configured remotely and supports text and graphics.
