The Cambridge-based wireless technology developer said two Korean handset manufacturers - LG Electronics and Innostream - have signed up to license the WGE (Wireless Graphics Engine) platform.

The WGE technology is written in C++, the de rigeur technology used by application developers, and allows users to personalise their handsets with the latest games, which will be available commercially in Europe and Asia later in the year.

TTP MD Tony Milbourn said: "Mobile gaming is a growing area that has the potential to significantly increase operator's revenues and WGE Games offers our customers a strong differentiating feature in their handsets".

More than 1,000 developers have already downloaded the free software kit available on the www.9dots.net website, including ITE, Hailstorm, and Tuna Technologies.

Innostream CEO Gijong Lim said: "The dynamic nature of WGE Games resembles those found on PC networks, bringing greater excitement to end users than ordinary mobile phone games in Korea.

"With large colour LCD screens, 40 polyphonic tones and with WGE, our mobile terminals are sophisticated entertainment consoles".
