Live today, AOL Search will see the company's members able to search the AOL walled garden of content and the outside web via its new partner's independent engine.
Results will be presented as recommended sites, via AOL's keyword system, and matching sites, which include the most relevant results collected from AOL's library and across the rest of the internet.
Google's engine will also be made available in the search areas of Netscape, AOL.COM and Compuserve, and for AOL's subscribers outside the US.
The two companies tied-up in May as AOL brought an end to its search distribution arrangement with pay-per-click outfit Overture in America. However, the end of that deal, scheduled for the Autumn, doesn't apply in the UK, Germany and France, so sponsored links to Overture Europe's partners will still appear in those countries, an AOL spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, AOL Time Warner is reportedly about to appoint former USA Interactive senior executive Jon Miller as head of America Online, following the departure of COO Bob Pittman amid concerns over the company's accounting methods.
The US Justice Department also today joined the Securities and Exchange Commission in launching a probe into the company's representation of advertising revenue in its accounts.
