BT Wholesale now claims to have upgraded 1,115 local exchanges to ADSL, thus making high-speed internet access available to two thirds of homes in the UK. BT, which has been much-criticised for the slow rollout of broadband but recently committed to a new programme of upgrades last month after cutting wholesale ADSL charges to stimulate demand, now covers 16m homes. The company is bidding to have 1m ADSL connections by next summer.
